Flag Day

While I was attending three American flag retirement ceremonies I was impressed with the respect shown by people of all ages. At the same time I noticed the irony of some of the shots that if you take off the boyscout or american legion uniform these shots could be from a protest rally. I just found it interesting that the same action burning an American flag can have such a opposite message.

A day at the Park

All my assignments were at local parks today it was great. I really enjoy days where I can hone my candid portrait skills.

Ok so the first isn't from a park but this is one that I really liked but didn't run they went for the more traditional one with the flash, but I like the shadows.

Here are the park photos, first two are of a stroke victim and his grandson, and the last is some kids that are playing at a park that there has been reports of snakes, officials are not worried the snakes harmless water snakes. All the people we talked to thought it was neat and there kids would love finding snakes, not the big outcry of horror our editor was expecting.

Sports and a Cake

Gotta love spring sports my tan is coming along nicely although my legs are still extremely white since we're not allowed to wear shorts to work.


I love fastpitch.

Baseball's ok too.

A marathon runner and her son, cheesey but works, it wasn't for the sports section so they liked it.

And a tasty Kahlua cake for the food section the sent me home with a piece.

2009 PA State Track

I spent all day last Friday at the PIAA State Track meet, it was a long hot day, but I got a bunch of fun shots that I am pleased with.

Short white girl in the middle, she did pretty good and moved on to the finals the next day which I didn't cover, I think she placed.

I found an angle where you can see her face, yippeee.

The girl in the orange in the back is the one of the many schools we were covering, she didn't win but it was close.

This one is not of a athlete from one of the schools we cover but a practice shot to set up the girl I was looking for but when she jumped she faced the other way...

I had to throw in a screaming shot, there was a lot of that going on.
I really like this shot of the guy going over the hurdle sadly the guy I needed was the one behind him so it didn't run in the paper but I still like it.

This guy was very serious coming across the finish line I love the look of determination.

'Tis the season

One of the many photos we've all been taking for sports features, those highschool students are good sports.

We went into the dungeon of the County courthouse to look at old records from the 1700s and on that are not in good condition, it was really kindof cool.

Ahhh the start of graduation season, luckily I haven't had to participate in the prom season they are making the stringers to that.

Toddlers & Tiaras

These girls are local out here in PA and they are going to be on TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras, I didn't take the pageant photo but it is there to show the "glitz". These girls usually go to "natural" pageants but for the show agreed to do a "glitz one. There mother refused to do any of the fake stuff, eyelashes, tans, and teeth (go mom!), they even tried to get her to agree to have the three year old wax her eyebrows. Mom held her ground and refused.




I went to shoot them well because they are local and going to be on a tv show so that's news. These on down are mine. Personally I think the girls are much prettier without the make up and "glitz".



This is the three year old that they wanted to wax the eyebrows. Too freakin' cute.

weekly highlights

One of our brave reporters letting a med. assistant student find and tap a vein, we used a different photo for the paper, using a non-paper employee. He was very determined not to look.

This guy is going to ride across the states from Cali to Penn. at the end of the summer in honor of his best friend who passed away in Jan. making a documentary along the way.

This went with a story about adults going back for schooling and training after loosing their jobs, this was the only guy who was actually working on something and didn't get all posey on me.

I spent the majority of the week going around and getting photos of old churches for a book the ad dept. is putting together. The didn't tell us exactly what they wanted and this week they thought it would be a good idea to send one of the girls to come with me to tell me what exactly to take photos of. FYI she didn't point out anything I wouldn't have taken photos of if she wasn't there. It is a sore spot.
