Experiments in photoshop

I was given the challege to make this photo from a Civil War Reenactment look like it was taken back then. It gave me something to do today at work, I called it research for future projects and it was a slow day my first assignment isn't until 7pm. It's is amazing what can be done in Photoshop, I am slowly learning.

Some fun stuff...

Shots from the past week or so...

Fun science fair for boy scouts and girl scouts at Bucknell University.
My artsy shot of a bottle, the story was about how watering down formula is dangerous, they didn't use this shot.

Aren't they sweet it was cold and they came in especially for me to get the shot, it was not communicated to the photographers correctly when people would be there they were good sports.
You gotta love high school drama.

First attempt at portraits

For Christmas I am falling back on the traditional giving of photo by the photographer, these are for the family that is letting me live in their house for very cheap. Hopefully they don't find my blog before Christmas.

This one is actually 1 in a series of 4 this is my favorite.

In Today's Paper

This is what happens when you are the only photographer on all the photos seem to be yours. All photos where published in today's paper.

Return Home

I covered my first military homecoming, it was neat I was running around finding families before hand and the ones I talked to had very oh how do I say this... boring reunions. so I quickly turned around and shot this couple. This first one is my favorite from the day, I do wish I was on their other side so that I could have gotten the kids face, but hey I can only be so good.

This is the shot that was in the paper, you can see everyone's face.

Guys getting off the plane

This family was cute but the dad would look and cheese it up everytime I pointed the camera at him, this is one of the only ones where he hadn't noticed yet and was still talking with family.

November Randomness

Some various photos from the past month enjoy I did.

Wine: Bottles vs. Boxes, what do you think these guys like?

Dinosaur randomly dropped by the news office, it was fun no one was working for a good 20 min. our editor was courious.

Local marching band wins fifth place, town goes crazy, well 15 of them do.

You gotta love free advertising for the car dealership for being a part of the story.

Yummy chocolate!!!!!!!

911 Call Center: the guy hid the whole time I was in the center but then actually got a call and had to stay at his desk.

Whole sale Christmas Tree Auction: notice the lack of trees, they were doing all those the next day.

An artificial sweetner is posionous to dogs so I got to go play at the vet for a hour, I love dogs.

Veteran's Day part 2

Veteran's Day - I kind of wish I could have found something more but I was running on auto pilot today. Cute kids and veterans together.

Veteran's Day part 1

These are from Monday Pre-Veteran's Day Program at a local elementary school. I got there half way through because I thought I was working at 9 but was scheduled at noon so the news editor didn't think there could be a photographer until I walked in 3 hours early. Thank goodness I did, I can't imagine what would have happened if the reporter had to take the photos, which they actually do A LOT here.

The adventures of Day Shifts

I have started my day shifts and am loving it, yeah for not being in the office till midnight. Although I am sad to see most of sports events go but now I get to shoot old people skating. It was pretty fun once they got use to the idea of me out there and that they didn't have to stay 15 feet away. I played around with flash and shutter, I don't know if it worked but there were a couple that my editor was willing to publish and a few he wasn't but that I kindof like.

Fall has arrived

Fall is my favorite time of the year, the leaves are changing, the weather cooling down, and Halloween. There have been a lot of assignments to cover the Halloween parades in the area in the two weeks before the actual day. This one got rained out, the fall weather, so they had all the kids who dressed up meet at the YMCA to do the judging. There were some great shots once I got the parents to stop having their kids pose for me.

This guys pirate outfit was made by his grandma, he was very proud of it and got second place in the "cutest" category. His little brother was a parrot, see below.

This one won "most unique", I don't know if you can see the face of the girl in the crystal ball, she came up with the idea and luckily had a mom that would participate.

These two got 1st and 2nd for "funniest" he a Penn State fan and is dressed as Michigan's wounded Wolverine, and she is a Bubble Bath, what you can't hear is "Splish Splash" playing on the cd player as she walked around.

This was my favorite moment of the day, the little girl was amazed by the parrot she kept petting him and touching him it was great. I didn't want to get too close so that the parents saw me and made the kids smile for the camera. The parrot is the brother of the pirate at top and won "best animal"
